OMG-mittromney-WTF?!

Posted under Uncategorized, rant, politics by Kris sometime around 11:12 am

Fabulous doublespeak Orwellian quote from someone who just stopped running for office in the US:

And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror. - Mitt Romney

So, if the republicans don’t win the terrorists do?
Oh I see… Did you mean that the terrorists don’t vote republican?
A vote for a some other party is a vote for terrorism? Yes? No?
Let me get this right… Don’t vote for democrats because they ARE terrorists?

Dude… STFU

I’m hoping that no mater where you stand politically that you would never flatly agree to that statement. As a New Hampshire independent, I subscribe to two political newsletters: The Gun Owners of America and the American Civil Liberties Union. :) I believe that this country was founded on people who loaded up on wooden ships and sailed the fuck away from people like Mitt Romney.

UnRealID

papers national IDThis will be voted on 5/10/2005, call your senators!
Here’s what California Senator Dianne Feinstein said:

I believe that the Federal government should have the ability to issue standards that all state-issued driver’s licenses and identification documents should meet. The issue is how should this be done, phased in and paid for. And I think that the Senate needs to examine these issues and help ensure it is not an unfunded mandate on the states.

Finally, I also am a strong supporter of Operation Gatekeeper and completion of the border fence, which is one of the bill’s provisions.

Now that we live in Communist China, might as well finish the great wall. /sarcasm

These free United States.

I can’t stress enough how bad a national ID system would be.
Please support the EFF by opposing this! Call your senators!

You can travel free from state to state? No papers?
No papers.

I would have liked to have seen Montana.

2.2 kids squared

I’ve spent the last few nights reading ‘The universe in a nutshell’ by Stephen Hawking. It’s a ‘heavy’ bedtime book, but I digress. In one of the chapters, Hawking talks about the exponential population explosion that’s happened in the last 1000 years. He brings up his concern that;

By year 2600 the Earth’s population will be standing shoulder to shoulder and the amount of electricity we use would make the earth glow hot.

Now Hawking has been often compared to the likes of Einstein and Newton when it comes to his understanding of the universe. So, when he makes his concerns for the future of humankind known, it carries a little more weight in my mind then some greenhouse gas study picked up by the associated press.

But it seems that this idea may be wrong. This morning I caught an article by Stewart Brand, founder of the Whole Earth catalog, that brings to light the U.N.’s data on population.

Human population is leveling off rapidly, even precipitously, in developed countries, with the rest of the world soon to follow. Most environmentalists still haven’t got the word. Worldwide, birthrates are in free fall. Around one-third of countries now have birthrates below replacement level (2.1 children per woman) and sinking. Nowhere does the downward trend show signs of leveling off.

He goes on to suggest embracing Nuclear power such as the same way we embraced clean automobiles. We need cars, lets make clean cars. We need power, let’s get the cleanest power per dollar. Check it out:

Who talks like this?

Posted under politics by Kris sometime around 12:05 pm

The next time you’re in a meeting, say this:

I’m going to validate business and statistical assumptions for better metric preparation. These tactical reports will allow us to quantify our time and cost.

At this point, if anyone in your meeting nods their head, slap them.
The other day, the boss slid the term ‘tactical metrics’ into a meeting. I asked if we were going to learn how to field strip a Glock.

California Mileage Tax?!

Posted under politics by Kris sometime around 3:13 pm

Much like a bad tax hoax that won’t go away. California’s new chief of the DMV is suggesting where to get the tax money they are losing because of newer fuel efficient vehicles and the Govenator is listening. A proposed GPS device that’s attached to the car and tracks how many miles you travel in California is causing an uproar with privacy groups and political talk shows across the state.

Yeah, but will they do it? Oregon was thinking about the idea last year and will begin a trial usage of a system designed by two engineering professors at Oregon State University. If they are thinking about it enough to pour money into it, sell your Prius now!

We have a lot of bicycle lanes here in Irvine. They are part of the “road way.” It costs money to maintain these lanes just like any other. We should tax bicycles per mile! Why not runners too! You and your fancy bi-pedal locomotion!

I’m not too worried. This is a systems integration nightmare equally double any complex transponder system. What’s to prevent me from leaving my GPS transponder hooked to a 12v battery in my garage? I can see the slashdot articles already.

A political message from planetkris.com

If there was hope, it must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty-five percent of the population of Oceania, could the force to destroy the Party ever be generated.

Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious. - George Orwell’s 1984

End of July = End of Route 93

Posted under politics by Kris sometime around 5:47 pm

route93.gifI was driving down Route 3 (The Everett Turnpike in New Hampshire) last night. There is a nice giant sign on the side of the highway in Nashua that reads: Route 93 CLOSED July 25th - 31st - SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTES. My first expression was: “Are you fucking kidding me?!”

Today, I was driving up Route 9 in Massachusetts. There is a giant billboard going East exclaiming: NASCAR Winston Cup Races at New Hampsire International Speedway July 28th - 30th. “Awesome.”

For those who have never driven in New England, done the commute into Boston from New Hampsire, or seen Exit 1 in NH on a “Winston Cup” weekend: You can forget going anywhere around here that weekend, just forget about it.

Now to add insult to injury. Our republican controlled goverment has announced that: “Credible reporting now indicates that Al-Qaeda is moving forward with its plans to carry out large scale attacks in the United States in an effort to disrupt our Democratic process.” But guess what? By closing down 93 and going to fruity colored alert, we HAVE disrupted our Democratic process!

Terrorism wins. Thanks Homeland security…
