Up and down.

Thunderstorms brought me a new IP last night. I was almost 100% sure that it was because I haven’t paid the cable bill. I have all the domains listed at everydns.net and changing the IP took no time at all. Plus the minute I finished the update – we were back on line. I say “we” because 3 of us use my server for blogs. I’ll bother setting up dynamic IP when we’re in Irvine.

The server will be moving again. Probably this weekend. So don’t be shocked if it’s up and down.

We had a good time in New Jersey for the long weekend. Christine showed me what the jersey shore looked like. I’ve never been out on an actual boardwalk. We had a good mileage test of the rallycar and made it home in the rain without too much drama.

Consolidation.

I’m just about to retire the old PII 266 that planetkris.com has ben running on for around 5 years. Last night the drive was moved, and the new PIII 800 sits buzzing on my floor. Short of a hardware failure in the next few days the “plexipaq” will be taken down and scrapped for parts. The new server is certainly not as striking – in it’s plastic crate case, red zip-ties holding the parts in. Not something that will hang from the ceiling. Not something that I even bothered to take a picture of.

The new machine IS faster. MovableType rebuilds sites in seconds over minutes. Two 100GB drives were crammed into the shell providing me with backup storage on the network. Now instead of running a file server, backup server, and web server – I have a small plastic crate that has power and a network cable.

It’s a baby blog?

I’ve long since wanted planetkris to be a blog. I’ve had my hands full with rallynotes.com for the longest time, and that has been a manumatic process for the last 2 years.
I’m such a die-hard HTML person. Up until this point I’ve hated every program that “creates” HTML. Notepad forever!

So, Movable Type is the new wave – next thing. Time to learn CSS and XML :)
